You have been named an heir

What that means today, the one thing you must do now, and what happens years from now.

Someone has named you as the person who should inherit their crypto and their encrypted vault if they stop showing up. Here is what that actually means.

What has happened

They have written an inheritance configuration to the Solana blockchain naming your wallet address. It records who you are, how long they may be silent, and how long you would then have to wait.

What it does not mean

You do not have access

Nothing of theirs is available to you. Not their funds, not their vault, not their wallet.

You cannot do anything yet

Claiming is impossible until their inactivity timer has fully elapsed.

Nothing has changed for them

They keep full control and can change the arrangement at any time.

You cannot see their secrets

You can see the public on-chain settings and the titles of their vault items. Nothing more.

Everything here comes from the blockchain, so nobody — including the owner — can show you something untrue.

The one thing you must do now

Accept the role, or none of this works

Until you sign a one-off acceptance from the nominated wallet, the program refuses to let any claim start — forever. If you never accept and they die, the estate simply locks. Nobody inherits anything.

See accepting the heir role. It takes a few minutes and one transaction.

What you need

  • The app installed on your phone.
  • A Solana wallet you control at the address they named — and a proper backup of its recovery phrase. If you lose that wallet, you lose the ability to inherit.
  • A small amount of SOL for transaction fees, now and later.

Back up the wallet you nominate

This is the failure people do not see coming. You may need this key in fifteen years. Treat it with the same care as your own savings — see backing up your recovery phrase.

What happens later

If they go silent past their timer, you can start a claim. That opens a waiting period during which they can cancel simply by opening their app. If the period passes with no sign of them, you finalize and receive the estate.

None of it is automatic. Every step is something you do.

In the meantime

Accept the role. Turn on notifications so you are told when the claim window opens. Then forget about it — you can check their status any time, and you will be alerted when anything changes. See watching an owner's status.

A conversation worth having

Ask them, now, while it is easy: what is in the vault, what they would want done, and who else should be told. The vault carries their instructions, but a conversation costs nothing and covers the things nobody writes down.
